It is true that green roofs do not need much maintenance. However, like any living system a little extra care must be given to the vegetation during the first few years to ensure that a green roof is actually green and not covered in weeds.

Ongoing maintenance for your GREEN ROOF

Like any plant or garden area, care and attention to the green roof area will benefit the beauty and functionality you have created. Fertilise the green roof plants if and when required but generally at least once per year. The Sedum succulent varieties are very hardy (self-sustaining) and will naturally continue to grow and establish flower and foliage coverage.

This natural carpet of colour will change with the seasons.

Hand weed or spot spray with a non-selective weedkiller if required. Seed heads can be removed after flowering has finished along with other leaf debris that may blow onto the roof surface. Check gutter system regularly and keep clean. Replanting or additional cuttings can be installed if and when required.
